Paul begins this letter with a formal greeting.  And in the greeting he introduces his theme of godliness, and living in obedience to God for God’s glory.  This theme will carry throughout this letter.  In this greeting he sets the foundation of our living upon the grace of God through Christ , and the fact that God is true and has made us promises through Christ – and God never lies.
