This great book of Israel’s history begins with God’s people under severe oppression in Egypt.  About 400 years after the Lord had led a small family to the bountiful land of Egypt, and the region of Goshen, Joseph was forgotten, and the people grew from a family to a large nation.  God’s purposes and promises were not forgotten, and he provided a deliverer, Moses.  God leads His people out of slavery into the wilderness.  He speaks through Moses giving His people the law and the tabernacle.  He established His people, confirmed the covenant promises again and promised rest.  He also dwelt with the people, and they feared him.  The tabernacle shows us our separation from God and our need for an intercessor in order to approach and dwell with our Holy God…This great book points to Christ who rescues us from the slavery of sin, reconciles us to God, so that God dwells with us, and we are gifted for ministry in his name to radiate the glory of God to the world around us, looking forward to our promised rest.
